Worked example: technology market entry

Decision: How should a technology company enter a new international market during the next 24 months? The example defines dimensions such as geography, entry mode, customer segment, commercial channel, operating footprint, and financing approach. Values include Europe or Latin America; direct subsidiary, partnership, acquisition, or digital-first entry; enterprise or mid-market; direct sales, partner-led, or product-led growth.

The team reviews cross-consistency one dimension pair at a time. A possible tension—acquisition with minimal local footprint—stays provisional until confirmed and explained. A decision-specific rule may require a local regulated partner for a particular geography; it becomes exclusionary only when represented as typed clauses, set to hard, activated, and confirmed.

The explorer generates bounded configurations. Reviewers inspect eliminations, compare structural distance, and promote a few coherent alternatives such as ā€œPartner-led regulated beachheadā€ or ā€œDigital-first regional test.ā€ Each candidate records rationale, advantages, limits, risks, assumptions, evidence, source values, and the exact configuration lineage. The candidates can then enter a weighted or quantitative evaluation.
